As a new step in our wine promotion program in the US this time we had the chance to introduce ourselves, the Tokaj Wine Region, the village of Mád, our Mád Furmint and single vineyard selected Szent Tamás Furmint during a real special professional event.
Organized by M Dash Group and hosted by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel the interactive seminar was attended by 30 professionals, among them wine experts, sommeliers wine buyers and wine writers.
It was for the first time when Tokaj and Mád got on the stage of the „Digging In To Unique Terroir” series aiming to present the most interesting wine regions of the world with the special characteristics of their unique terroir. Panelists of the seminar were Bibiana Escobedo from Boisset Collection Burgundy, Vittorio Marzotti from Lamole de Lamole, Chianti Classico and Kettmeir, Nicolas Quille from Pacific Rim, Roland Herman from Roederer Champagne and Piero Ratti from Ratti Barolo.
The morning session of the program covered the Mad Furmint 2015 village-level wine, while in the afternoon the single vineyard selection Szent Tamás Furmint 2012 was presented and offered for tasting to the participants. For both sessions a list with premium wines was compiled.
When introducing Tokaj special reference was made to the wine region's development, geology, the dominant bedrocks, the mineral accumulation of the soil, the geological distinctiveness of the different vineyards and the effects it plays together with the clay minerals (mainly zeolite and bentonite) on the style of wine styles and their unique characteristics. During the brief historical review - as part of which vineyard classification and the issues of protection of origin were also touched upon – our presentation highlighted the viticultural and oenological practices to achieve the paramount quality and individual wine style, the new Tokaj bottles and the importance of innovative design in brand building, the role of botrytis in the past and present, the causes and change in ratio of the dry and sweet wines, the appearance and headway of Furmint in the international gastronomy as well as the dry Furmint’s international success.
The lunch to follow the morning session offered the possibility to give a role to the sweet wines, too. In addition to the Mad Furmint 2013 Magnum the Late Harvest 2013 was also presented and offered for tasting. They were received with outstanding interest.
We believe that presentations such as this one can contribute to a large extent and can give a strong support to our efforts to raise interest towards and direct attention of the international wine writers, experts and wine buyers to Furmint, considered to be the new taste of the world.
