Aszú fully showcases the artistic essence of Hungarian winemaking
On February 15, the Embassy of Hungary in Washington, D.C. hosted a wine reception to launch the ‘Year of Aszú’ campaign in the United States. The event was attended by diplomatic, political, and business leaders, in addition to wine distributors, merchants, and sommeliers from nearly 30 restaurants.
Vinum Tokaj International and the Hungarian Tourism Agency joined forces to put on the spectacular event, which featured six major Hungarian wineries from the Tokaj region - Béres Vineyard, Chateau Dereszla, Grand Tokaj, Gróf Degenfeld Vineyard, Patricius Winehouse and Royal Tokaji.
Ambassador László Szabó opened the reception with a presentation on 'Hungary, Country of Creativity.' Hungarian wines then took center stage, tastefully communicating the message of Hungarian culture, tradition, and gastronomy. Dr. Péter Molnár, General Manager of Patricius Winehouse and Member of Board of the National Council of the Wine Communities guided the guests through the Tokaj region and its exquisite wines.
The Tokaj Aszú is at the top of the pyramid of Hungarian wines. It’s one of the world’s most prominent and complex sweet wines, resting on 500 years of tradition and unique history. Aszú fully showcases the artistic essence of winemaking and offers consumers an inspiring and original experience.
The ‘Year of Aszú’ aims to raise the profile of Hungarian wines, especially Tokaj sweet wines, in professional fora and in the media, and enhance their overall market presence in North America.
