Hosted by the Todmorden Mills Art Gallery, to accompany István Fujkins The Art of Music Vision exhibition opening and its side event the Music Vision show presented on a Hungarian invention, the Laser Harp, a Tokaj Wine Conference was organized. It was a real unrivalled event, exposing in a unique aspect the symbiosis of world-wide recognized Hungarian art, culture and wine.
The Hungarian-Canadian Business Association celebrated its 5th anniversary of organization with Tokaj wines. The tender issued by the LCBO for procurement of white wine has given a particular actuality of the event, as it could constitute a breakthrough in the introduction of Tokaj wines to the Canadian market.
It was a gratifying event that we attended on the 17th of April in Toronto. That was the date when the Consular Mission of Hungary officially reopened. The opening ceremony had among the noted guests Szabolcs Takács, Deputy State Secretary of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Michael Coteau Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, László Pordány, Ambassador of Hungary to Canada, and Dimitris Azemopoulos, Dean of Consular Corps in Toronto.
Following the opening of Tokaj Wine Boutique Restaurant and House of the Hungarian Wines as well as the first wine tasting dinner organized in December 2013, a new possibility was offered for the introduction of the Tokaj Wines to the Canadian public. Organized by Vinum Tokaj International LLC. and Vinum Tokaj Canada Inc., in co-operation with Riviera Parque Banquet and Convention Center, marking a new stage in the wine promotional program, a wine conference was held on the 29th of March to make the guests among them the biggest Canadian companies leaders - acquainted with the best wines of Tokaj.
As a result of a yearlong enduring marketing and market building activity performed by the Vinum Tokaj International LLC. in the North American market, a long felt need was filled in today with the official opening of the first Tokaji Wine Boutique Restaurant. Mrs. Stefánia Szabó, General Consul of the Consulate of Hungary, Dr. Ödön Király Trade Commissioner of Hungary in Canada, the Deputy Mayor of Vaughan, Mr. Gino Rosati and Regional Councillor Mr. Michael DeBiase were present at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
In August 2016 a new professional study tour was organized to the Tokaj Wine Region having as distinguished guest the well-known wine writer Christine Havens. Christine has been working with such renown and leading American professional publications as The Tasting Panel Magazine, The SOMM Journal and The Clever Root Magazine; the world’s most popular wine application – Vivino - reaching out 19 million users and publishes regularly tasting notes, reviews on her own website, blogs, social media sites about wines from different regions of the world.
Our last trip to the US offered the possibility to visit and have a wine tasting with our friends in Sonoma with whom we cherish a few years long relationship.
The Las Vegas Caesar's Palace was to host the Wine and Spirit Wholesalers of America Convention and Exhibition organized for the 73 times this year, considered to be the number one biggest professional event of the US. This year, more than 200 suppliers and 35 service provider companies presented their products and services within the framework of a real fantastic show.
The professional tasting combined with a gala dinner named the „Taste of the Industry” was one of the outstanding events organized in the framework of the Wine and Spirit Wholesalers of America Convention held between April 18 to 21 at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
The annually organized gala dinner of the Corvina Canadian Hungarian Business Directory was held this year on the 27th of February. The event aimed to celebrate the twelfth appearance of the Corvina Business Directory, the publication presenting Hungarian Canadian businesses. The first large-scale celebration called “Together for the Hungarian House” organized by the Hungarian Canadian Cultural Centre's new management was the first major event of the Canadian wine promotion program, too realized by Vinum Tokaj Canada Inc. Held on the January 23, the ball had as chief patron the Hungarian Ambassador to Canada dr. Bálint Ódor, and as patron dr. Stefánia Szabó, Consul General in Toronto who was present at the event, too.
The co-operation launched between KFA Architects + Planners and Vinum Tokaj Canada Inc. is a real positive and inspiring example of how the Hungarian wines can strengthen the Canadian-Hungarian business relations.
The first event to be held by Tokaj Vinum Canada Inc. in December was a wine tasting with dinner organized on the occasion of Hungarian Canadian Engineers Association’s year-end gala dinner at the Tokaj Wine Boutique+Restaurant in Toronto.
Sante Restaurant in Ottawa has launched a monthly series of Embassy Dinners – Seeds of Diversity. In co-operation with the Hungarian Embassy a Hungarian dinner was held on the 17 November 2015, where guests could enjoy the Hungarian menu put together and prepared by Sante’s chef Daniel Guerra and Zsolt Varga, chef of the Hungarian Embassy.
The each course of the special, traditional dinner was accompanied by excellent Hungarian wines presented to the 65-persons dinner guests by sommelier Joseph Safian being present on behalf of Vinum Tokaj Canada Inc.
Following the Toronto International Film Festival, which has become one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals over the past nearly four decades (founded in 1976, the festival is often referred to as the Oscar’s ante-room because of the art projected there plays an important role later in the Hollywood award season) a new international film event was organized in Toronto. This time, between 14 to 28 November EU countries’ films got the opportunity to debut at the European Union Film Festival.
The primary objective of the Hungarian Wine Museum was the creation of a site designed to be capable of presenting the Hungarian wines in exclusive environment, where the "new" wines are completed with museum wine specialties, which – given the serious market demand – represent a considerable business opportunity in Canada. The visit to the Wine Museum represents and offers occasion to premiere wine dinners to be organized here for various target groups. On one hand it provides a continuous activity and regularity, on the other hand allows presentation of the wines to a large audience.
Hungarian Wines in the realm of ice wines – a wine dinner at Niagara
Árpád Park Hungarian Hall and Community Center in Niagara Falls was the venue of the wine dinner on 23 October 2015, organized by Vinum Tokaj Canada as part of the celebration series launched by the Hungarian Cultural Council of Canada and the Hungarian Canadian Cultural Centre.
Opening of the New Hungarian House in Toronto celebrated with Mad Furmint
Hungarians living in Toronto area have a home again. Implemented with exemplary co-operation and support, the Hungarian House was opened on 24 October 2015.
"Since I was there and saw it, I can safely say that we handed over an impressive building, meeting the 21st century’ quality standards and design, suited to cater for all needs of the Hungarian community there," - said Árpád Potápi, Secretary of State for National Policy - present at the house inauguration.
„A little bit of home” – wine tasting dinner at the Tokaji Wine Boutique Restaurant
The new wine promotion project in Canada was launched with a playful program. The Tokaji Wine Boutique Restaurant operating as a featured site for the events conducted between 2013-15 hosted the first wine tasting dinner on 12 September 2015.
In connection with the anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian revolution, organized by the Hungarian Consulate General in Los Angeles, a memorial ceremony took place in the Bel Air Club House on 22 October 2015. The event took place with the participation of about 80 such famous personalities as Commissioner Andrew Friedman and former Los Angeles sheriff, David Leroy Baka, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of governmental organizations and different associations.
Hungarian wines made their introduction at a large-scale event in Los Angeles. The Hungarian Food Festival organized for the 2nd time this year, held on the 17th of October, has created an excellent opportunity for those interested in Hungarian culture and gastronomy to familiarize themselves with the best Hungarian wines, too.
Santa Clarita Valley’s golf course was the special venue to host the launching of our US wine promotion program with a wine presentation, tasting and dinner held on the 21st of September.
The 130 guests attending were leaders of the supplier companies of most prominent Californian store chains and top managers of the largest logistics centers.
By Decree of the Minister of Agriculture issued for supporting promotion of wine products in third countries (apart from Hungary and EU), an opportunity has opened from 2015 for Hungarian wines to be present on the U.S. market with governmental support. The support provides opportunities and tools for those Hungarian wineries which target the international markets with their outstanding wines to get into the international wine supply chain and help Hungary to be displayed on the international wine map.
